8–12 years

Senior (Small & Medium Breeds)

Slower to rise, longer naps, occasional confusion. May become more clingy or conversely more independent. Senses begin to dull. Still capable of enjoyment and play.

Nutritional Needs

2 smaller meals of senior formula. Reduced calories to prevent weight gain on lower activity. Higher protein to maintain muscle mass. Joint supplements. Fresh water always available.

Exercise & Activity

2–3 shorter walks daily rather than one long session. Low-impact activities — swimming is ideal. Mental enrichment as important as ever.

Special Care

Bi-annual vet visits with comprehensive bloodwork. Orthopaedic dog bed. Ramp instead of stairs for sore joints. Keep routine consistent — seniors find change stressful.
